Emmanuoel Karalis Stuns the World: Becomes Second All-Time with 6.17m – Eyes World Record!

Emmanuoel Karalis 6.17 world athletics: In a historic night that will remain indelible in the history of Greek and world athletics, Emmanuoel Karalis “flew” to 6.17m in the packed Peania stadium. During the Stoiximan Panhellenic Championship, “Manolo” surpassed legends Bubka and Lavillenie, while reaching the point of threatening Mondo Duplantis’s world record, proving he now belongs in the stratosphere of pole vaulting.

Incredible things from the one and only Emmanuoel Karalis at the Stoiximan Panhellenic Championship, according to the official update from SEGAS. In a packed indoor stadium in Peania, the charismatic athlete made history by clearing – yes, clearing!!! – 6.17m with characteristic ease, a performance that brought him to second place all-time, above the giants Sergey Bubka and Renaud Lavillenie.

And he didn’t stop there… Karalis set the bar at 6.31m attempting to break Mondo Duplantis’s world record. The definition of self-confidence! The world record did not return to Greek hands, as it did in 1970 from Christos Papanikolaou, but never say never!

The Development of the Competition

Emmanuoel Karalis (OSFP) was once again enjoyable and compensated the fans who filled the Peania indoor stadium to applaud him. After waiting two hours to start his attempts in a final of 15 people, he made two magnificent jumps at 5.70m and 5.90m and then placed the bar at 6.07m, with a twofold ultimate goal: on the one hand, the Panhellenic record in indoor track (6.05m), on the other hand, the best performance in the world (6.06m).

Manolo cleared the bar impressively, touched it slightly with his chest on the way down, but it remained in place and the crowd rose from their seats to acclaim the great Greek Olympian. The continuation for the athlete of Marcin Szczepanski and Charis Karalis was at 6.17m, in an effort to pass to second on the list of the best pole vaulters of all time. And he succeeded, clearing the bar cleanly, very cleanly on his second attempt. The stadium shook with the celebrations, his father grabbed him and lifted him high in the air, but the competition did not end there, as he asked for the bar to be set at 6.31m. In his first attempt, he bent the pole and took his first sensation of the… stratosphere. In the second, he didn’t set the pole and decided to end his pursuit of the Holy Grail right there.

Emmanuoel Karalis wrote history with his jump at 6.17m. Manolo did not succeed this time (at the world record), but he sent the message to Duplantis: “Watch out! I’m coming!”.

The award ceremony for the pole vault was carried out by the president of SEGAS, Sofia Sakorafa, and the president of the European Olympic Committees, Spyros Capralos. Worthy of mention is the excellent competition with a jump at 5.48m for Antonis Santas of AEK and Giorgos Papanastasiou of PAOK, with the latter noting an absolute personal best.
