The negative reputation of the Greek prime minister makes his walk in Europe difficult
– Kyriakos Mitsotakis managed and achieved during the last decade to do… and to live everything.
Even though the current prime minister did not have the specific political weight of Dora Bakoyannis, he emerged to the leadership of New Democracy in 2016, with… Antonis Samaras as director, with whom they later ruptured their relations, while in the parliamentary elections of 2019 he embodied the anti-SYRIZA front, resulting in reaching up to the Maximos Mansion and the premiership.
In 2023, even though he lost almost 200,000 votes compared to the electoral contest of 2019, the choice of Greeks to abstain from those ballot boxes led Kyriakos Mitsotakis to record and gather a larger percentage, the… much-sung 41%, and until today to maintain the lead in the polls, from the moment that a political force has not stood out as an adequate alternative solution, so as to gather and express the anti-Mitsotakis current, which is boiling in the Greek society.
Politically full and with his legacy having been secured, Kyriakos Mitsotakis could facilitate the developments in the Center-Right, to initiate himself the procedures for the succession in the leadership of the party and thus to ensure the renewal of the political hegemony of New Democracy, with terms of a positive vote and not a prevalence of the… blind among the one-eyed. For this to happen, however, from the moment that Kyriakos Mitsotakis remains politically active, another alternative must arise for his public presence, preferably in some international, European office.
The knowers of the… backstage of Brussels, however, point out with emphasis that in the present circumstance at least something like this cannot happen due to the… stigma that Laura Kovesi has stuck on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with her investigations for extensive corruption phenomena and for scandals of the Greek government, centering on the seven-year period of Mitsotakis in the governance of the country.
This negative reputation makes the walk of the current prime minister difficult at a European level, combined with the presence of Kyriakos Pierrakakis in the presidency of the Eurogroup. The Greek minister of National Economy and Finance has won the impressions at a European level, with the bureaucracy of Brussels but also experienced players and shapers of the European backstage pointing out with meaning that “Kyriakos No. 2”, namely Kyriakos Pierrakakis, is the person that the European nomenclature watches with interest for future roles and not “Kyriakos No. 1”, namely Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
A parameter that has its importance for the shaping of developments at an internal level, both more broadly in the country and more specifically inside New Democracy.
